'One of my grandfathers was a timber rafting manager and the other was a forester, so I do not think that my interest in wood architecture and construction comes as a surprise. Wood is a soft and humane building material – it has an almost skin-like feel and temperature. As they age, many materials get uglier, but I think wood ages beautifully and with dignity.'
